Groovy Kind of Thing|Ann+Felix
They came out in droves. From every part of our beautiful country, Kenya, they all came. Old men with vintage suits swung their walking sticks ceremoniously. Young men in their flashy automobiles and gadgets landed in style. Ladies rocking their latest fashion-wear and accessories were definitely not going to miss this. It was a sight to behold. One of their own was getting MARRIED!
The journey had been a long one for the two lovebirds. From the days of cafeteria dates (courtesy of
HELB loans) to the “Jobs in Kenya “ search that left their feet aching and soles slanted. Things were tough, really tough. The dream of getting a Kshs. 100,000 salary in a blue-chip company was dwindling each passing day. You needed to know someone, who knew someone, who happened to know someone “helpful”. For these two village-graduates, only G-Unit’s Footprint lyrics kept them going…
♫ …First there was two sets of footprints in the sand
Then there was one set of footprints in the sand
When times get hard and shit hits the fan
God don’t walk with me, he carries me man… ♫
I digress. The much awaited day was here. The village woke up to a new awakening… the Nairobi visitors had come, the intriguing visitors with cameras and money. They were speaking in a funny dialect (sheng, probably) and taking photos of everything. These Nairobians!
